Thyroid Hormone Therapy

There are two major problems associated with the thyroid gland; hyperthyroidism (when the gland is overactive) and hypothyroidism (when the gland is underactive). Hypothyroidism is the most common thyroid disorder which affects about 6-10% of women while hyperthyroidism affects about 2% of women. The signs and symptoms of the two thyroid disorders can present themselves in different and in most cases opposing ways. Below are the main symptoms for each.

For optimal thyroid replacement therapy, a combination of both T3 and T4 may be used

Another thyroid replacement therapy is Thyroid Extract.

Note; if a patient finds inadequate responses to his/her current thyroxine treatment, he/she should discuss it with his/her GP.
