Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT)

Ageing can be a tough time for many men and women. With ageing, reproductive organs start producing less of the hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Normally, the adrenal glands take over the production of these hormones, and produce enough of them to make up for the loss caused by menopause and andropause, and prevent the associated nasty symptoms.

But for some reason, some have it worse than others. Women may experience depression, anger, severe mood swings, anxiety, weight gain, vaginal dryness, insomnia, uncomfortable hot flushes. Men may experience fatigue, weakness, low sperm count, memory problems and irritability.

BHT is considered safer. Some studies show that BHT may be more effective and may even prevent breast cancer.

What is Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Bio-identical Hormones are hormones derived from plants like wild yam and soy bean. They are called ‘bio-identical’ because they mimic the shape and function of the hormones that the body naturally produces. Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) aims to maintain blood and tissue levels of reproductive hormones within the therapeutic range at the lowest doses possible.

At Sunshine Coast Compounding, we offer BHRT as a safer alternative to synthetic hormones in the treatment of symptoms due to menopause and andropause.
